What began four years ago as a small winter gathering around Ante Rogic’s home ping-pong table has grown into a meaningful and fast-growing fundraiser in the fight against pediatric cancer.

On Saturday, Feb. 7, more than 100 people braved frigid winds to attend the fifth annual Olib Open Table Tennis Tournament at the Boonton Knights of Columbus Hall. The bracket-style event drew 60 players and 75 spectators in support of PESA and PESAKids to Fight Kids Cancer, led by Rogic’s cousins, Dan and Steven Cukar.

Participants gathered in memory of Dan’s sister, Diana, who passed away from cancer at age 5, and in solidarity with children battling the disease today. Through friendly matches, tricky trays and giveaways, the tournament raised about $3,000.

Rogic launched the Olib Open in 2022 to bring friends and family together for “those who need it most.” The first event had 25 players and was hosted in his home before moving to larger venues as it grew and attracted local sponsors.

The first four tournaments raised $4,000 combined; this year’s single-day total nearly matched that figure, highlighting the event’s incredible momentum.

At PESA and PESAKids, we are deeply grateful to help sponsor the tournament each year and to stand alongside a community so committed to fighting pediatric cancer. We hope the Olib Open continues to expand, welcoming players of all ages to compete, connect and give back for a meaningful cause.

If you would like to support PESA to Fight Kids Cancer, we invite you to donate and help us continue funding critical efforts for children and families affected by cancer.
